Dear Leadership 2000 Alumni:
Do you remember your Leadership 2000 experience as one that changed your
life forever?
If you are like me, you think back on your time in the program as one
that gave you many of the leadership tools you use today in your work,
civic and personal lives. Leadership 2000 gave me the tools, the
encouragement and the belief in myself that I could go out into the
world and make a difference. Like me, I am certain that each of you is
making a difference in your community every single day.
I remember at my class graduation feeling so excited about what I had
just been through but also feeling a little sad that the whole
experience was over. I wanted to share the Leadership 2000 experience
with everyone. I just didn’t know how at the time. Can you identify with
that?
So now several years have passed (more for some of us than others) and
we are still left with that question of how we can pass the Leadership
2000 experience on to others.
Now there is a way.
The Leadership 2000 program makes a concerted effort to be inclusive of
the demographics in Wyandotte County. Your class was intentionally a
good mix of gender, race, age, and socio-economic backgrounds. We
believe that to be inclusive, we have to make the program available to
lots of different types of people. In order to do that, we frequently
award scholarships to participants who represent their community in
unique ways but cannot afford to pay the full tuition fees. In 2008, we
awarded a record $9,000 in scholarships to class participants.
We all know that the economy has been pretty bad this year. It seems
like a terrible time to be asking for your help. But it is exactly times
like these where the need continues to grow. As our ability to absorb
the scholarships into our regular operations becomes more and more
difficult, the need for quality leaders continues to grow.
We must continue training tomorrow’s leaders today.
In order to continue offering programs like these, we need your help. We
are asking our alumni to donate between $25-$50 (or more if you can) to
the Leadership 2000 program fund so that we can continue being an
inclusive leadership development organization.
Please take a moment to click on the link below. You will be directed to
our website where you can make a contribution to the fund. All
contributions to the fund will be used to underwrite Leadership 2000
programs and are tax deductible.
For most of us, it’s been a long time since we asked for your help. We
need you. Wyandotte County’s current and future leaders need you.
If not now…then when? If not you...then who?
Thank you for your support and happy holidays.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey S. Walker
Board Chairman
