"Home Away From Home"
All youth in Wyandotte County who are removed from potentially
dangerous homes are taken to the Juvenile Intake and Assessment
Center. Currently there are no emergency shelters in the county or
nearby for these children in need of care.
The children who are brought into
juvenile intake are normally transported across the state to cities
such as Wichita or Junction City until their cases are investigated.
The children are provided with undergarments and hygiene items
during this time which averages 72 hours. But due to a lack of
resources, these children rarely get a hot meal or toys to play
with. They have never been given pajamas.
Until stable housing can be
established in the county, Leadership 2000 would like to fund and
assemble care packages with clothing, toys and snacks as a small
gesture for each of these children in our community who are facing
this traumatic situation.
L2000/Class 22 is
funding backpacks for the children that consist of things such as
Toothbrushes, Toothpaste, Shampoo, Soap, Deodorants, Toys, Backpacks,
Girls shirts or Boys Shirts, Shorts, Underwear, Socks, Snacks, Brushes,
and Combs.
Item Donations: If you

need in Wyandotte County.
